Course Structure
Contents of the training curricula of the PPLC conducted by the AAC Flight Academy is designed to fulfill the requirements specified in Subpart
A – General Requirements, Section 1 – Common Requirements and Section 2 – Specific Requirements for the PPL Aeroplanes – PPL(A) of Subpart C – Private Pilot Licence (PPL), Sail Plane / Glider Pilot Licence (GPL) and Ballon Pilot Licence (BPL) and Subpart I – Additional Ratings, of IS-FCL.
It also fulfills the requirement specified in FCL.210.A PPL(A) – Experience requirements and crediting and includes the curricula of the Night Rating as described in FCL.810 Night Rating, of IS-FCL.
The Theoretical Knowledge Training for the PPLC includes a minimum total of 222 hours of Instructions comprising of classroom instructions, presentations, computer-based- training, discussions, progress tests, etc.
Course Modules and Minimum Durations of Instructions are as flows:
Module TKT/PPLC/01 – Air Law – 20 hrs
Module TKT/PPLC/02 – Aircraft General Knowledge – 40 hrs
Module TKT/PPLC/03 – Flight Performance and Planning – 15 hrs
Module TKT/PPLC/04 – Human Performance & Limitations – 15 hrs
Module TKT/PPLC/05 – Meteorology – 30 hrs
Module TKT/PPLC/06 – Navigation – 40 hrs
Module TKT/PPLC/07 – Operational Procedures – 10 hrs
Module TKT/PPLC/08 – Principles of Flight – 40 hrs
Module TKT/PPLC/09 – Communications – 12 hrs
The Flight Training element of the PPLC consists of 40 hrs of minimum flying training, including a minimum of 25 hrs of dual instructions and a minimum of 10 hours of solo flight time which shall include 5 hrs of solo cross-country(X/C) flight time and a minimum of 5 hours of flight time at Night required for the Night Rating endorsement on the Licence.
The outline of flight training curricula is as follows:
Module 1 – Lessons up to the first solo flight comprising of the recommended minimum total of 10 hours dual flight instruction on a single-engine Aircraft including the principles of threat and error management,
Module 2 – Lessons up to the first solo cross-country(X/C) flight and beyond comprise a total of at least 15 hours of dual flight instructions including at least 5 hours of instrument instructions, at least 10 hours solo flights and 5 hours of cross-country(X/C) flying.
Module 3 – Night Flying comprising of the at least 5 hours of flight time at night, including at least 3 hours of dual instruction, including at least 1 hour of cross-country(X/C) navigation.
Entry Requirements
- Age Requirement A student registering for the PPLC shall be at least 16 years of age (An applicant for a PPL shall be at least 17 years of age).
- Educational Requirements A student registering for the PPLC shall have obtained passes for minimum of six (06) subjects at the GCE Ordinary Level Examination, including the subjects of English and Mathematics or an equivalent qualification. Students planning to become professional pilots should be advised to possess passes for minimum of six (06) subjects at the GCE Ordinary Level Examination, with four (04) Credit Passes to include the subjects of English, Mathematics and Science, in the same sitting, or an equivalent qualification.
- Medical Requirements A student registering for the PPLC shall obtain and hold a valid Class 1 or Class 2 Medical Assessment.
- Linguistic Requirements A student registering for the PPLC shall be able to demonstrate a good knowledge of written and spoken English Language equivalent to ICAO English Language Proficiency Level 4 or above.

Duration
- The PPLC comprises of 222 hours (minimum) of Theoretical Knowledge Training comprising of Theory Instructions,
- Progress Tests and Discussions and minimum of 45 hrs of Flight Training (40 hrs for the PPLC and 5 hrs for the NR).
- The course will be delivered within a period of 6 – 8 months depending on individual ability, weather conditions and security clearance.
Additional Information
- Civil Aviation Authority of Sri Lanka (CAASL) has approved the AACFA as an Approved Training Organization (ATO) under the Flying School Licence No. 05, authorizing the AACFA to deliver the Private Pilot Licence Course (PPLC) followed by the Night Rating (NR).
- On successful completion of the theoretical knowledge training component of the PPLC, students will have two parallel paths ahead: continue with flight training component of the PPLC and follow it with NR, and simultaneously enroll in the Airline Transport Pilot Licence Theoretical Knowledge Training Course (ATPC).
Fees and Payment Structure
Subject to amendments for fuel and oil price changes and operational costs (AAC reserves the right to amend the Fees Structure. Flight Rate is reviewed quarterly on 1st of each March, June, September and December of the year and revised where required. All fees, except the Refundable Deposit, are subjected to Government Tax).

Course Fee – USD 9,550.00, including:
Theoretical Knowledge Training Fee, including Cost of Civil Aviation Authority of Sri Lanka (CAASL) PPL Knowledge Examinations (One Sitting only) Fee – USD 1,400.00
Training Package Fee, including Course Material – USD 500.00.
Flight Training Fee, excluding Flight Tests (45 hours) – USD 7,650.00.
Additional Flight Rate – USD 170.00 per hour (Single Engine Aircraft).
Ad hoc Flight Rate – USD 175.00 per hour (Single Engine Aircraft).
(The Cost of Additional Sittings of PPL Knowledge Examinations, Cost of Flight Examiners, Costs of Flight Tests / Repeat Flight Tests and Costs associated with Evaluation and Issue of Medicals and PPL (as specified by the CAASL) will have to be borne by the student).

First Installment of the Course Fee : USD 3,600.00 (USD 1,400.00 – Theoretical Knowledge Training Cost, USD 500.00 – Training Package Cost + USD 1,700.00 for 10 hours of Flight Training) – to be paid before the commencement of Theoretical Knowledge Training.
Second Installment of the Course Fee : USD 1,700.00 (for 10 hours of Flight Training) – to be paid on or before completion of 8 hours of Flight Training.
Third Installment of the Course Fee : USD 1,700.00 (for 10 hours of Flight Training) – to be paid on or before completion of 18 hours of Flight Training.
Fourth Installment of the Course Fee : USD 1,700.00 (for 10 hours of Flight Training) – to be paid on or before completion of 28 hours of Flight Training.
Fifth & Final Installment of the Course Fee : LKR USD 850.00 (for 5 hours of Flight Training / Flight Test) – to be paid on or before completion of 38 hours of Flight Training.
