Instrument Rating Modular Course (IRMC) – preceded by Cross-Country(X/C) Navigation Flight Experience

Course Introduction / Overview
The aim of the IRMC conducted by the AAC Flight Academy is to equip students seeking their first Instrument Rating, the skills necessary for the safe and competent operation of Aircraft, both day and night under Instrument Flight Rules with a minimum decision height of no less than 200 feet (60 m) and to train them to the level of proficiency necessary for the issue of first Instrument Rating (IR). The IRMC conducted by the AAC Flight Academy is designed to enable the students, with Private Pilot Licence, to demonstrate the practical skills appropriate to the Instrument Rating, to the satisfaction of the CAASL. Satisfactory completion of Airline Transport Pilot Licence Knowledge Examinations in conjunction with successful completion of the IR Flight (Skill) Test conducted by the CAASL will enable the students to obtain the Instrument Rating enabling them to act in the capacity of a pilot of the Aircraft used for flying training in a private / commercial flight, as the case may be, under IFR and in IMC. The Aircraft used for the IRMC conducted by the AAC Flight Academy is Cessna 152.
Course Contents
Contents of the training curricula of the IRMC conducted by the AAC Flight Academy is designed to fulfill the requirements specified in Subpart A – General Requirements, Section 1 – Common Requirements and Section 2 – Specific Requirements for the Aeroplane Category of Subpart G – Instrument Rating – IR and Appendix 6 A. IR(A) Modular Flying Training Course, of IS-FCL. Theoretical Knowledge Training is not part of the IRMC and therefore Theoretical Knowledge is not applicable to this course. The Flight Training element of the IRMC consists of minimum of 50 hours of instrument time under instructions in a single-engine Aircraft. If a holder of a single-engine IR(A) holding a multi-engine class or type rating wishes to obtain a multi-engine IR(A) for the first time, such a student shall complete at least 5 hours instructions in instrument flying in multi-engine Aircraft. Prior to the commencement of flight training under the IRMC, students shall obtain at least 50 hours of Cross-Country(X/C) flight experience as PIC of Aircraft with at least 10 hours on the category of Aircraft used in the IRMC. The outline of cross-country(X/C) navigation flight exercises are as follows: Module 4 – Exercises, subsequent to a pre-solo VFR Navigation Check, comprise of cross-Country(X/C) flights as required, to fulfill the requirement of 50 hours of VFR cross-country(X/C) navigation flights as PIC. The outline of flight exercises of the IRMC are as follows: Module 5 – Selected instructional exercises in IF covering, required instrument time under instructions, pre-flight procedures for instrument flights, including the use of the flight manual and appropriate air traffic services documents in the preparation of an instrument flight plan and, procedures and maneuvers for instrument flight operation under normal, abnormal and emergency conditions.
Entry Requirements
    • Age Requirement A student registering for the IRMC shall be at least 16 years of age (An applicant for a PPL shall be at least 17 years of age).
    • Educational Requirements A student registering for the IRMC shall have obtained passes for minimum of six (06) subjects at the GCE Ordinary Level Examination, with four (04) Credit Passes to include the subjects of English, Mathematics and Science, in the same sitting, or an equivalent qualification. Additionally, student shall possess a current and valid Private Pilot Licence issued in accordance with Annex 1 to the Chicago Convention with Night Rating and shall obtain at least 50 hours of Cross-Country(X/C) flight time as PIC of Aircraft with at least 10 hours on the category of Aircraft used in the IRMC, prior to the commencement of flight training under the IRMC.
