Airline Transport Pilot Licence Theoretical Knowledge Training Course (ATPL)

Course Introduction / Overview

The aim of the ATPC conducted by the AAC Flight Academy is to provide students, a sound theoretical knowledge enabling them to sit the Airline Transport Pilot Licence Knowledge Examinations conducted by the CAASL with confidence.

The ATPC conducted by the AAC Flight Academy fulfills the requirements specified in Appendix 3 (B) ATP Modular Course – Aeroplanes of IS-FCL and is designed to enable the students, who have at least completed the theoretical knowledge component of an approved Private Pilot Licence Course, to acquire the theoretical knowledge necessary to sit for Airline Transport Pilot Licence Knowledge Examinations conducted by the CAASL, and thereby demonstrate the theoretical knowledge appropriate to the Airline Transport Pilot Licence, to the satisfaction of the CAASL.

Successful completion of Airline Transport Pilot Licence Knowledge Examinations conducted by the CAASL, in conjunction with required flying training and licences, will enable the student to obtain the frozen Airline Transport Pilot Licence. Frozen Airline Transport Pilot Licence and subsequently, will enable the student with required flying experience, to obtain the full Airline Transport Pilot Licence.

Course Contents
Contents of the training curricula of the ATPC conducted by the AAC Flight Academy is designed to fulfill the requirements specified in Subpart A – General Requirements, Subpart F : Section 1 – Airline Transport Pilot Licence – ATPL Common Requirements and Appendix 3 B. ATP Modular Course – Aeroplanes of IS-FCL. The Theoretical Knowledge Training for the ATPC includes a minimum total of 650 hours of instructions or, in case of students with CPL/IR, 250 hours of Instructions, which can comprise of classroom instructions, presentations, computer-based- training, discussions, progress tests, etc. Course Modules and Minimum Durations of Instructions are as follows: Module TKT/ATPC/01 – Air Law – 50 hrs Module TKT/ATPC/02 – Aircraft General Knowledge – 150 hrs Module TKT/ATPC/03 – Flight Performance and Planning – 140 hrs Module TKT/ATPC/04 – Human Performance & Limitations – 40 hrs Module TKT/ATPC/05 – Meteorology – 70 hrs Module TKT/ATPC/06 – Navigation – 95 hrs Module TKT/ATPC/07 – Operational Procedures – 25 hrs Module TKT/ATPC/08 – Principles of Flight – 60 hrs Module TKT/ATPC/09 – Communications – 20 hrs Course Modules and Minimum Durations of Instructions in case of students with CPL/IR are as follows: Module TKT/ATPC/01 – Air Law – 10 hrs Module TKT/ATPC/02 – Aircraft General Knowledge – 60 hrs Module TKT/ATPC/03 – Flight Performance and Planning – 55 hrs Module TKT/ATPC/04 – Human Performance & Limitations – 20hrs Module TKT/ATPC/05 – Meteorology – 35 hrs Module TKT/ATPC/06 – Navigation – 25 hrs Module TKT/ATPC/07 – Operational Procedures – 15 hrs Module TKT/ATPC/08 – Principles of Flight – 30 hrs Module TKT/ATPC/09 – Communications – N/A Flight Training is not part of the ATPC and therefore Flight Training is not applicable to this course.
Entry Requirements
    • Age Requirement A student registering for the ATPC shall be at least 17 years of age (An applicant for an ATPL shall be at least 21 years of age).
    • Educational Requirements A student registering for the ATPC shall have obtained passes for minimum of six (06) subjects at the GCE Ordinary Level Examination, with four (04) Credit Passes to include the subjects of English, Mathematics and Science, in the same sitting, or an equivalent qualification and have completed the theoretical knowledge component of an approved Private Pilot Licence Course.
      Additionally, students registering for the ATPC shall be aware that they shall be in the possession of a current and valid PPL or a CPL at the time of ATPL Knowledge Examinations.
    • Medical Requirements A student registering for the IRMC shall obtain and hold a valid Class 1 Medical Assessment.
    • Linguistic Requirements A student registering for the IRMC shall be able to demonstrate a good knowledge of written and spoken English Language equivalent to ICAO English Language Proficiency Level 4 or above.

Duration
  • The ATPC comprises of 650 hours minimum training comprising of Theory Instructions, Progress Tests and Discussions. The course will be delivered within a period of 6 – 10 months, depending on the mode of delivery.

  • The ATPC for a student processing the Commercial Pilot Licence with Instrument Rating comprises of 250 hours minimum training and course will be delivered within a period of 2 – 4 months.
Additional Information
  • Civil Aviation Authority of Sri Lanka (CAASL) has approved the AACFA as an Approved Training Organization (ATO) under the Flying School Licence No. 05, authorizing the AACFA to deliver the Airline Transport Pilot Licence Theoretical Knowledge Training Course (ATPC).

  • Students must possess a current and valid Private Pilot Licence or a Commercial Pilot Licence to apply for the Airline Transport Pilot Licence Knowledge Examinations conducted by the CAASL.

(In case of online delivery of training, the cost of delivery of Course Material have to be borne by the student)
The Cost of Civil Aviation Authority of Sri Lanka (CAASL) ATPL Knowledge Examinations and Cost of Additional Sittings of ATPL Knowledge Examinations will have to be borne by the student.

Payment Structure

Registration Fee – to be paid at the time of Registration (Registration Fee is not applicable for Students who have already paid Registration Fees).

First Installment of the Course Fee : USD 1,450.00 to be paid before the commencement of the Course.

Second (02) and final Installment of the Course Fee : USD 1,000.00 to be paid within three (03) month of the commencement of the Course.
